The Breast Educator will…
Show a video that explains:
How to give self breast
exams and what to look for
while doing the exam.
The importance of having
mammograms and clinical
exams.
Present artificial breast models
to palpate for breast lumps and
fibrocystic disease.
Men are welcome to attend!
The class is every Tuesday
morning from 8:30-11:30.
Must be a Heartland patient to
attend.
A $10 gift card is presented to
each patient that completes the
Breast Health Education Class!
Heartland patients can only
attend the class once a year.
Diabetes
Education
The Diabetes Educator will...
Help patients to understand the
importance of diet and exercise.
Review lab work to ensure
patient understands the test
results.
Conduct blood sugar testing.
Provide medication education
including how to administer
insulin.
Weight loss programs
This is a support group for
those who struggle with losing
weight. Topics of discussion are
emotional eating, effective goal
setting, assertiveness,
self-esteem and body image, and
behavior modification/exercise.
Each participant is given a
participant’s manual that
includes a food diary and
exercise log to keep track of
their progress. This group is a
great way to get the support
that is essential when making a
lifestyle change.
Smoking
Cessation
This group is a support group
for those who wish to stop
smoking. In this group,
participants are given a
workbook from the American
Cancer Society, which has
activities and tips for smoking
cessation. Topics in this group
include health related problems
associated with smoking,
symptoms that may be expected
when you stop smoking, ways to
change behavior patterns, stress
reduction, and assertiveness.
This group is a way for those
who would like to stop smoking
to get support from peers who
are going through a similar
situation.
